Long-Term Clinical Outcomes Following Brain Injury

Researchers on the TRACK-TBI-LONG study have been evaluating long-term clinical outcomes following TBI. 1264 Participants were monitored for up to 6 years post-injury. While the most common outcome was “stable”, functional outcomes showed the highest rate of decline: 29% of people with mild TBI and 23% of people with moderate-severe TBI showed functional decline over time. Results suggest that changes in function may continue up to at least 6 years post-injury, and that TBI of any severity should be considered as a “chronic, evolving condition”.
